In my previous post, Toenail Fungus Remedies Take Time, I emphasized that patience and commitment to the process are two of the most critical elements in treating a toenail fungus. That, of course, begs the question, how long does toenail fungus treatment take? And the answer is - it depends.

There are factors involved in assessing the length of treatment required to heal a toenail fungus infection. The typical answer is going to be no less than a month but, really, even that’s just a shot in the dark without more information. An infection near the end of the nail may only take a matter of a month to cure if the infected nail is cut off and a topical anti-fungal is liberally and regularly applied for the duration. A toenail infection almost to the cuticle will take significantly longer.

Consider that, until the discolored and infected region of the nail has completely grown out and been removed, you are at risk for reinfection.  Your best bet, assuming the nail has not fallen off and you are treating your toenail regularly with a topical solution, a home remedy or a prescription medication is to assume no less than a month and probably much longer.

A worst case scenario in which your toenail fungus infection involves the entire nail (no or very little healthy nail left showing) or in which you’ve lost the nail entirely will be 6-10 months. Why so long? Well, that’s how long it can take for a toenail to grow back (though this varies from person to person). Given that you want your entire nail healthy and pink, you can expect to wait that long before the last of the discolored nail has been trimmed away.

Whatever you do, don’t give up. While the wait for toenail fungus treatments to work may be frustrating, the alternative… living with the infection for years, is certainly worse. Just stick with it and know that you’ll eventually be free and clear of the problem. Start now, and you you may make it in time to enjoy the beach with your friends come summer!

Sorry for your experience, Blah, but I’ve managed to rid myself of toenail fungus and know plenty of others who have as well.

I can only imagine your frustration. As I’ve written in several other posts on this blog, treating toenail fungus and keeping it treated is a long fight requiring consistent and persistent effort. Don’t give up!
